The new Superman will become bisexual
Now it's official: John Kent, the son of Clark Kent and Lois Lane, will be bisexual in a new DC comic, as it became known yesterday - on National Coming Out Day. In the DC universe, he first appeared as the superhero Superboy, and then took the mantle of his father and became Superman.
The comic will be released on November 9. According to his story, John Kent will have a romantic relationship with reporter Jay Nakamura.
According to Variety, the decision to portray a superhero as bisexual is a high-profile example of how comic book publishers widely spread the idea of the LGBTQ community on their pages. In August, DC published a new comic in which Robin, Batman's partner, was also portrayed as bisexual. Other representatives of the LGBTQ community are also such famous comic book characters as Batwoman, Harley Quinn, Green Lantern, Ice Man, Miss America and the North Star.
Comic book author Tom Taylor noted that now many more people will be able to see themselves in the famous superhero.
I have always said that everyone needs heroes and everyone deserves to see themselves in their heroes. I am very grateful to DC and Warner Bros. for sharing this idea. Superman has always symbolized the pursuit of hope, truth and justice. Today, this symbol represents something more. Now more and more people will be able to see themselves in the most powerful comic book superhero,
- he noted.
Nevertheless, comic book fans were not thrilled with this news. They literally attacked the official DC Comics account on Instagram, where they are outraged by the orientation of Superman.
Superman is not gay! Don't change the classics! Create something new, be original! Don't ruin our beloved DC character! You will lose a lot of fans, stop doing all the comics with bisexuals or gays. You're just trying to force it on innocent children. I'll make sure my kids don't watch DC comics,
