The La Scala Theater suspended Anna Netrebko from the March performances, citing her illness. The Italian press writes about this, reporting that now Netrebko will have to pay a penalty to the theater. The opera diva will not take part in the performances on March 9, 12, 16 and 19. Her husband, opera singer Yusif Eyvazov, also did not appear at the rehearsals.
Netrebko herself has already commented on this news on her Instagram. She published a screen of an article from the Italian edition and wrote:
I'm healthy, but I'm not coming. It's not true!
The La Scala Theater is also looking for a replacement for the Russian director Valery Gergiev, who was supposed to conduct the play "The Queen of Spades".
The Munich Philharmonic Orchestra had also previously dismissed Gergiev from the post of chief conductor and artistic director, which he had held since 2015. The mayor of Munich, Dieter Reiter, said that he demanded that he distance himself from the military special operation in Ukraine, which began on February 24. According to the head of the city, the conductor did not do this.
The Metropolitan Opera in New York has also announced that it will stop working with Russian performers who support President Vladimir Putin.
