Grammy Awards 2022: full list of winners and highlights

The 64th Annual Grammy Music Awards were held in Las Vegas at night. Musthub tells you who received the awards and what the ceremony was remembered for this year.

Winners

The Silk Sonic duo took awards in four nominations, including for "Song of the Year" — "Leave The Door Open" was recognized as the best composition.

American musician and composer John Baptiste became the best in the nomination "Album of the Year", and singer Olivia Rodrigo was noted as the best new artist. In addition, with her song "Drivers license", she received an award in the nomination "Best Solo Performance", and also took a statuette for her debut album "Sour".

The Foo Fighters received awards in three categories at once — they were awarded for the best rock performance, rock song and rock album.

Kanye West received awards for "Best Melodic Rap Performance" for the song Hurricane and "Best Rap Song - "Jail".

Highlights of the award

This year's Grammy Awards were held according to new rules — unlike previous ceremonies, this year the winners in the most prestigious categories were chosen by the members of the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences themselves.

Previously, performers in these categories were chosen by "secret" committees, which included from 15 to 30 representatives of the industry. They have been working since 1989, but last year they decided to cancel them.

Not all viewers were satisfied with the choice of winners. The Korean band BTS traditionally performed at the ceremony. Their performance was one of the brightest, but the team did not receive the coveted award. This made their fans very angry — on social networks, BTS fans accused the organizers that they invite the band every year for ratings, but do not award.

Billie Eilish dedicated her performance to Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins, who died at the end of March. The singer came on stage in a T-shirt with his portrait.

Kanye West did not attend the Grammys this year, although he received two awards. The organizers banned him from performing at this year's awards due to "ambiguous behavior on the web." The reason was racial insults to the host of the award Trevor Noah, which the rapper allowed himself on Instagram (owned by Meta, which is recognized as an extremist organization in the Russian Federation).

There was also a mention of the conflict in Ukraine. At the Grammy ceremony, a video message from the President of Ukraine, Vladimir Zelensky, was included, who called on the audience to support Ukraine. What is the strongest contrast to music? The silence of destroyed cities and murdered people. Fill this silence with your music. Do it today to tell our story. Support us as much as you can, in any way, but not by silence.

After Zelensky's appeal, musician John Legend and Ukrainian poet Lyubov Yakimchuk sang a song dedicated to Ukraine.
