John Lennon's son publicly sang his song Imagine for the first time. He promised to do this only if the world ends
Julian Lennon, the eldest son of John Lennon, one of the founders of The Beatles, publicly sang his father's legendary song Imagine for the first time. Previously, he promised fans that he would do it only if the end of the world came.
The musician performed the song as part of the charity project Stand Up For Ukraine in support of Ukrainian refugees. He posted a recording of his speech on YouTube.
I felt that as a person and as an artist I had to react in the most significant way I could. <...> Why now, after so many years? Because I always said that I would sing Imagine only in case of the end of the world. And also because the lyrics reflect our collective desire for world peace. With this song, we are transported into a space where love and unity become our common reality, at least for a moment... This song reflects the light at the end of the tunnel that we all hope for,
— he explained his act and called on everyone who is close to the Imagine message to help refugees all over the world.
Julian is John Lennon's son from his marriage to his first wife Cynthia. He has been making music for many years, as has his younger brother Sean, the son of Lennon and Yoko Ono.
In addition to Julian, U2, Bruce Springsteen, Elton John, Celine Dion, Lenny Kravitz, Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne, Madonna, Red Hot Chili Peppers and other artists joined the Stand Up For Ukraine campaign.
Also this week, the British band Pink Floyd, as a sign of support for Ukraine, released the song Hey Hey Rise Up for the first time in 28 years with the vocalist of the Ukrainian group "Boombox" Andrey Khlyvnyuk.
