The cause of death of Matthew Perry has been announced

Star of the series "Friends" Matthew Perry died from the "acute effects of ketamine," a drug used to treat depression and also as a recreational drug, TMZ reports.

The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner's Office released a toxicology report concluding that Perry had been receiving ketamine infusion therapy for depression and anxiety a week and a half before his death. However, the ketamine in his system at the time of death "could not have been the result of infusion therapy because the half-life of ketamine is 3-4 hours or less."

According to the medical examiner, the ketamine in Perry's system caused both cardiovascular overstimulation and respiratory depression. The medical examiner found no traces of alcohol or any other drugs. Contributing factors to Perry's death were fatigue, coronary artery disease and buprenorphine exposure. “Buprenorphine is used to wean addicts off opioids,” the summary says.

Matthew Perry died at his home in Los Angeles at the age of 55, his body was discovered in a jacuzzi by his assistant. It is noted that no drugs or alcohol were found at the scene, but his ex-girlfriend Katie Edwards said that, in her opinion, the actor relapsed before his death. "He wouldn't have drowned just like that."
