“If I had read the books, I would have played differently.” Gary Oldman thinks "mediocre" played in "Harry Potter"

Actor Gary Oldman, who played the role of the godfather of the main character Sirius Black in the Harry Potter films, is dissatisfied with his work in the films. He spoke about this on Josh Horowitz's Happy Sad Confused podcast.

According to the actor, his role as Sirius Black turned out to be “mediocre.” and now he would play differently.

"Maybe if I had read the books like Alan (Alan Rickman played Severus Snape in the franchise. - Ed.), if I had been one step ahead of the script, if I had known what would happen next, I think that he would have played differently,” Oldman said.

The 48-year-old actor added that he is often dissatisfied with old roles, but believes that this is rather good. "If I sat down and looked at myself in a picture and said, 'Oh my God, I'm amazing,' it would be a very sad day, because you have to want to do the next role even better."

He noted that working on the Harry Potter films, as well as Batman, helped him become a better father and spend more time with his sons Alfie, Charlie and Gulliver, who remained with him after his divorce from his wife. "I thank God for Harry Potter." Working on "Batman" and "Harry Potter" really saved me because it meant I could do the least amount of work for the most money and then be home with the kids."

Earlier it became known that the franchise will receive a restart in the format of a series, work on which has already begun. The author of the Harry Potter books, JK Rowling, also takes part in the creation of the series. The release date of the series is not yet known.
