Tooth loss and diarrhea for life: the manufacturer of Ozempic Dozens of lawsuits are being filed in the US due to health problems

The drug for diabetics "Ozempic", which has become a popular way to quickly lose weight, has turned out to be dangerous to health: the manufacturer of the drug, Novo Nordisk, is being sued en masse by customers. The performance of the Ozempic analogue also faced the same situation. - Eli Lilly company. This was exclusively reported by the Daily Mail. Lawyers say this is just the beginning, and thousands more lawsuits will be filed.

Customer complaints are that the packaging did not properly describe possible complications.

Brea Hand, 23, from Oklahoma, told the Daily Mail that she started taking Ozempic. in May 2023 and within a few weeks began to suffer from nausea, vomiting and constipation.

Mother of two Hand said doctors prescribed her Ozempic. to control weight fluctuations and prediabetes, and was soon diagnosed with gastroparesis and diabetic ketoacidosis, which can be life-threatening. During her last visit to the doctor, she was sent to intensive care. According to her, the doctors said that if she had come even one day later, she could have died. "It was scary. It was painful. I have never experienced such pain in my life and I don’t want to experience it again.”

49-year-old Robin Kelly also stated that after treatment with Ozempic, she developed gastroparesis and said that manufacturers should not primarily advertise the benefits, but warn about the possible consequences. Kelly stated that after she began treatment in December 2021, she began vomiting and diarrhea. She continued to take Ozempic. for several months without knowing that this was the cause of the symptoms. According to her, because of this she could not even go to work. At the same time, Kelly notes that her endocrinologist insistently recommended this medicine to her, despite the fact that she has type 1 diabetes, while the drug is intended for type 2.

Billie Farley, 47, said she was prescribed the drug for weight loss in October 2022. “Approximately three months after she began taking Ozempic, she began vomiting and severe abdominal pain,” her lawsuit states. In January last year she was diagnosed with serious intestinal damage and was forced to undergo surgery. According to her, she still experiences severe pain, which may remain with her for the rest of her life.

A girl named Zakaria Gregory also underwent surgery to have her gallbladder removed.

The first case in the lawsuit was filed last August after a complaint by 45-year-old Jacqueline Bjorklund from Louisiana. After taking Ozempic, which was prescribed to her off-label, she experienced “severe gastrointestinal distress that resulted in severe vomiting, stomach pain, burning in the gastrointestinal tract, and repeated hospitalizations due to stomach problems.” , as well as tooth loss due to severe vomiting.”

Those who complained about the consequences of taking the drug also note the aggressive PR of this drug: according to many plaintiffs, doctors intrusively recommended that they take this drug.

The companies commented on the claims to journalists and stated that they intend to challenge them in court. According to them, the drugs have undergone numerous clinical studies and are safe for health.

"Ozempic" and its analogues, the active ingredient in which is semaglutide, have gained popularity as a means that helps to quickly lose weight without dieting or training. The method became popular thanks to some stars: Kim Kardashian, Elon Musk, Sharon Osbourne and many others lost weight with its help. Even more stars, including Russian ones, were only suspected of using this drug, although they themselves deny it. Those who use Ozempic for weight loss usually face condemnation from the public, as is the case with plastic surgery.
