Ukrainian woman renounces Miss Japan title after news of her affair with a married man
A native of Ukraine, Caroline Shiino, who won the Miss Japan competition, is forced to give up the title. This was reported by the Kuodo agency.
The cause of the scandal was publications in the Japanese weekly magazine Shukan Bunshun: they said that the girl was dating a married man. Shiino herself stated that they really had a relationship, but they broke up after Carolina found out about his wife. However, soon information appeared in the press that they continued to meet.
Shiino said on social media that she was confused after the news broke, so she couldn’t confess right away. “I was unable to tell the truth due to confusion and fear after the article was published,” she wrote.
Carolina Shiino moved to Japan from the Ukrainian Ternopil at age five and grew up in the city of Nagoya (Aichi Prefecture). In 2022, she received Japanese citizenship. The girl works as a model.
According to her, her participation in the competition was criticized by many due to the fact that she is not ethnically Japanese. "It's like a dream. Although I live as a Japanese woman, I have faced many problems due to racial barriers. I am filled with gratitude for being recognized as Japanese in this competition," Caroline said in her speech at the competition.
Shiino herself notes that she does not pay attention to the critics. "I don't have a negative attitude towards this way of thinking. On the contrary, I think that such views provide an opportunity to think."
Scandals at beauty pageants have arisen frequently lately. One of the most notorious was the Miss France beauty contest, the winner of which was criticized for her short haircut.
