Cindy Crawford - 58 years old: main photos of the supermodel
One of the most successful supermodels, Cindy Krofurod, is celebrating her birthday: on February 20 she turned 58 years old. An American from a simple family was able to become the highest paid fashion model of the 1990s, dropped out of chemistry university for a modeling contract, was married to Richard Gere and was able to change beauty standards thanks to her famous mole. In honor of the supermodel's birthday, Spltnk tells her story - in photographs.
Family
Cindy was born in Illinois to an electrician and a nurse. The future catwalk star grew up with two sisters, and in her teens she experienced the death of her younger brother from leukemia. Cindy Crawford's passion for modeling began at the age of 16, when local photographer Roger Legel asked her to take a photo of her for the student newspaper. The shoot took place by the pool in the backyard of Sydney's high school boyfriend's house. She liked the way she felt in front of the lens, and then Cindy decided to continue acting.
Career
Cindy persuaded her parents to let her go and went to Chicago in search of a modeling agent, later they accompanied their daughter to her “first work meeting.” In 1986, Crawford moved to New York.
In the early stages of her career, Cindy had the pseudonym Baby Gia (Baby Gia. - Ed.) due to her resemblance to supermodel Gia Carangi. Crawford's defining feature was a prominent mole on her face, which was often retouched in her early photographs. After the release of Cindy's first cover for Vogue in 1986, where the publication's editor-in-chief Grace Mirabella decided not to “remove” Cindy's mole, this distinctive feature became her calling card. But Mirabella’s main competitor, Anna Wintour, who openly sought her colleague’s place and in those years headed British Vogue, had a different opinion. For the January cover of British Vogue in 1987, Wintour seemed to deliberately “remove” a mole from Cindy’s face.
Soon, Crawford became the most famous model and sex symbol of the 1990s: she appears on the covers of fashion magazines and becomes the most desirable fashion model at the shows of Chanel, Versace, Ralph Lauren and many others. In 1988, Cindy unexpectedly decided to shoot for Playboy, which was considered a step back for supermodels of this level. She became the first supermodel to pose nude for this publication. The model also starred for Sports Illustrated, where the Swimsuit Calendar with her participation became international bestsellers. In addition to modeling, Cindy hosted the MTV show "House of Style" for several years, recorded successful fitness video tutorials, acted in films, wrote children's books and has been the main Pepsi ambassador since 1992. Personal life
Cindy Crawford was married to Richard Gere from 1991 to 1995. They were considered one of the most beautiful couples of the time and appeared on the cover of Vogue together. Shortly after breaking up with Gere, Cindy met Rande Gerber, a former fashion model and owner of fashionable restaurants and nightclubs in New York and Los Angeles. They married in May 1998 in the Bahamas. In 2000, Cindy decided to retire from her career to focus on her family. The marriage produced two children: Presley Walker (July 2, 1999) and Kaia Jordan (September 3, 2001). The children also took up modeling. Presley occasionally appears in photo shoots and advertising campaigns, and Kaia is one of the most sought-after fashion models today. ]
Return
In the second half of the tenth Cindy returned to the catwalk, closing the Versace show dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the death of Gianni Versace, along with colleagues Naomi Campbell, Claudia Schiffer, Helena Christensen and Carla Bruni. Shortly before this, she starred for Balmain, and also began appearing again on the covers of Vogue and other publications. In 2023, the documentary series “Supermodels” was released, dedicated to the life and work of the main fashion four of the 1990s: Cindy Crawford, Naomi Campbell, Christy Turlington and Linda Evangelista.
