"I wish I could be a firmer parent." Courteney Cox spoke about the difficulties in communicating with her daughter Coco
59-year-old “Friends” star Courteney Cox spoke on Minnie Driver’s podcast “Minnie Questions” about the difficulties in communicating with her 19-year-old daughter Coco from ex-husband David Arquette. She says sometimes she wishes she could be a "firmer parent."
"I didn't want to get involved, even though I knew something was wrong, because she would be very angry with me," says the actress. According to her, Coco, like many teenagers, believes that her mother does not understand her.
“Sometimes I felt like I should have trusted my feelings and been more involved in her life,” Courtney added.
"As I've gotten older, I've learned to say no and set boundaries, but before, when she was a child or even years ago, I wish I had been a firmer parent. People say, 'Why do you let Coco wear so much makeup?' She always wore makeup, for her it was a way of self-expression. She loves to dress up. She dyes her hair: a week ago it was purple, now, in my opinion, it’s light, but before it was blue,” says the actress, adding that Coco dyed her hair so often that it “ruined the bathroom a thousand times.”
The actress noted that, despite all this, children always remain children. "I think we just have to let them be themselves, respecting boundaries. I'm not good at boundaries. I need to work on that."
Courteney Cox gave birth to a daughter using IVF. Before this, the actress suffered many miscarriages - she admitted that she managed to get pregnant quite easily, but could not carry the baby. According to Cox, she always moved away from it quite quickly.
