“I think it’s very appropriate to be in my homeland on this day.” Meghan Markle says she misses her kids while on tour in Nigeria

Meghan Markle complained that she really misses her children Archie and Lilibet. Now she and Prince Harry are on a charity mission in Nigeria, they were greeted with a gala reception in the city of Lagos.

According to Meghan Markle, on Mother’s Day she is pleased to be in her historical homeland; she noted that she is very grateful for the reception they received in Nigeria, holding a naming ceremony at Government House in Lagos State: “Today is Mother’s Day. And although, Of course we miss our children, I miss my little ones, it seems very appropriate to be in my homeland and with my family. Thank you very much for your kindness and for these beautiful names, I can’t wait to come back.”

In Nigeria, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry were greeted very cordially, gymnasts performed in front of them, and during the official part of the visit they held a naming ceremony: the dukes were given Nigerian names as a sign of belonging to the people of Nigeria.

Her husband Prince Harry also addressed the crowd, he called the crowd his “family”: “I will ignore protocol because at the moment we are all one family. Thank you for welcoming my wife and me to Nigeria. This is our first visit. But it definitely won't be the last. Thanks for the naming ceremony. I don't know how I got involved in this, but being able to witness it with my wife meant a lot to both of us, but especially to her, so thank you. for this."

Note that in October 2022, Meghan Markle, in her podcast “Archetypes,” said that she took a DNA test, from which she learned that she was 43% Nigerian. This inspired her to expand the partnership of their Archewell Foundation with organizations in Nigeria. Specifically, during this visit they signed a partnership between the foundation and the Giants of Africa organization, which uses basketball to empower young people.

Meghan Markle highlighted her heritage by wearing the traditional Nigerian garment, aso oke. It is made from a hand-woven patterned fabric and is wrapped around the waist or thrown over the shoulder and worn on special occasions. It was given to Meghan Markle by women from Nigeria.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex flew to Nigeria to promote the Invictus Games, a competition between injured service members. They have been held on the initiative of Prince Harry for several years. On the first day of her visit, Meghan Markle visited the Wuse Lightway Academy school in the capital of Nigeria, Abuja, and for this appearance she chose a dress called “Windsor”. This gave rise to a wave of criticism online: many considered it rather tactless to mention the royal family, despite the fact that the Dukes of Sussex had long ago severed all relations with the British royal family. And even during Prince Harry's recent visit to his native UK, his father King Charles did not find time to meet with his son.
