"Unfortunately, you are white, male and straight." The Internet is discussing why a Malian singer will perform at the opening of the Olympic Games in Paris instead of Frenchman David Guetta
The opening ceremony of the Olympic Games will take place in Paris on July 26. Famous French DJ David Guetta was surprised that he was not invited to perform and represent the country at an important event for France, Le Figaro reports. Instead of him or another famous French artist, the singer of Malian origin Aya Nakamura will take the stage.
David Guetta, 56, answered journalists' questions after his performance at the Chambord Castle in Paris over the weekend about why he would not be performing at the opening of the Olympic Games. The DJ said he did not know why he was not invited.
"If you have an answer, please tell me. Because I don't get it at all. Globally, I'm still between fourth and fifteenth place among the most listened to artists in the world, and not even a DJ. To give you an idea, Beyoncé is between forty and fifty places. But no one has called me. And I'm French and I love France!" Guetta said.
In the comments under the news on the publication's Instagram*, users expressed their assumptions on this matter. Most of them supported the artist, saying that Nakamura, who was born in Mali and sings in French with African and Arabic dialects, is a questionable choice as a symbol of France. But there were also those who noted that the 29-year-old singer is more suitable for this role.
"Unfortunately, you are white, male and straight, so that ruins everything," joke the internet. "Too honest, too good a citizen, too good a reputation. It seems that France is determined to show the world that the new French citizen is the complete opposite of David Guetta," "What a shame. The more you love France, the less you will be invited to ceremonies," "David Guetta would have been the right choice, but alas, not with this government," write the internet.
David Guetta is a world-renowned DJ and songwriter. During his career, he has released seven studio albums and has been named DJ of the Year by DJ Magazine for several years in a row.
