"He doesn't care about anyone but himself." Film industry insiders accuse Timothée Chalamet of toxic behavior on set
James Mangold's Bob Dylan biopic, Completely Unknown, wrapped filming in June. Shortly after, insiders working on the project told the Daily Mail about the toxic behavior of lead actor Timothée Chalamet on set.
Several sources told the publication that the actor, who has earned a reputation as a sweet, down-to-earth guy thanks to his interviews and appearances on TV shows, behaves “like a diva” in everyday life. “He was really paranoid. We weren’t allowed to look him in the eye or even introduce ourselves to him before we started working,” one of the crew members shared his experience of “communicating” with Chalamet.
According to sources, Timothée once became enraged and began “cursing” at a production assistant for accidentally capturing him on camera while photographing a solar eclipse. Eventually, a security guard took the girl’s phone, looked through its contents, and forced her to delete all the photos. And 20 minutes later, Chalamet allegedly demanded that producers send out emails to the entire cast and staff saying that phones were not allowed around Timothée.
The insider who told the story noted that if Chalamet was around, phones were not allowed to be used, even for important work matters. The actor also hated it when the film crew watched rehearsals, and had a particular dislike for the stunt doubles who helped the lighting crew set up the equipment before he arrived on set, sources said.
There was also the time Chalamet got himself a trailer with a toilet all to himself, at the last minute. It happened on a particularly busy day of filming, so around 120 extras and 150 crew members had to line up at another restroom. “He doesn’t care about anyone but himself,” one insider told the Daily Mail.
However, the source of the toxic atmosphere on the set, as they say, was not only Timothy, but also the director of the film. According to insiders, Mangold was rude and cruel to his subordinates, and once even used physical force, pushing an assistant. The only one who did not get it from him was the main star of the film, Tim. “The director prayed to the ground that Timothy walked on, because his star status brought funding to the project. On the last day of filming, Mangold gave a speech, and it was entirely about Timmy. About how the film crew was inspired by him and touched by his performance. At the same time, he did not thank any of the staff,” the source said.
It is noted that other famous actors who starred in the film had warm relationships with the staff. There, everyone spoke well of Elle Fanning and Edward Norton. It is also worth mentioning that one of the Daily Mail's interlocutors did not confirm most of his colleagues' statements. He said that the requirement not to approach Timothée could have come from the producers, and a personal toilet for the main star and a ban on photography are common things in this business.
Timothée Chalamet is known for how seriously he takes his profession. According to rumors, it is because of his career in Hollywood that he rarely sees and almost never appears in public with his beloved, Kylie Jenner. And Kylie's mother, Kris Jenner, does not like this at all.
