Stars of Beverly Hills 90210 and Charmed Pay Tribute to Shannen Doherty
Many of Shannen Doherty's co-stars on Beverly Hills 90210 and Charmed have paid tribute to her by posting farewell messages on Instagram*. The actress passed away after a long battle with breast cancer at the age of 53.
Actress Holly Marie Combs, who played Piper on Charmed and was close friends with Shannen Doherty, posted several photos of her and Shannen Doherty together, calling her her "better half for 31 years": "There's a hole in my chest and I can't breathe from grief. Part of me is missing, even though I know exactly what you would tell me right now. Fierce fighter until the very end. My fiercest protector. My best friend. You taught me what family is. You were and will always be my sister. I love you."
Holly Marie Combs also wrote that Shannen Doherty's "undying spirit" will live on in Holly's own sons, 20-year-old Finley and 17-year-old Riley, whom Doherty loved like her own.
Other actors from the Charmed series also paid tribute to Shannen Doherty. Brian Krause, who played the angel Leo on the show, wrote, "You showed me what strength is. You taught me to be fearless and live with purpose. To know my worth and to stick to my guns. Forever loved! My heart is truly broken."
Rose McGowan, who joined the cast after Doherty left but with whom she soon became friends, wrote: "Shannen Doherty had the heart of a lion. We laughed at the dark forces that wanted us to hate each other, but instead we chose love and respect. We will never forget you, dear sister."
Shannen Doherty's co-star Tori Spelling, who played Donna on Beverly Hills 90210, posted several photos of themselves with Doherty and wrote, "I'm still speechless..."
Gabrielle Carteris, who played Andrea Zuckerman in the early seasons of Beverly Hills 90210, remembered their colleague Luke Perry, who died of an ischemic stroke five years ago. He played Dylan, the main love of Shannen Doherty's character, on the show: "I know Luke will welcome you with open arms and love."
Brian Austin Green, who played David Silver in the series, wrote: "Shan. My sister... You loved me no matter what. Thank you for the gift of you."
"Still trying to process the immense grief of losing my longtime friend Shannen, a woman I always described as one of the strongest I've ever known," wrote Jennie Garth, who played Kelly.
Jason Priestley, who was Doherty's character's brother on the show and dated her for several years in real life, wrote: "She was a strong woman by nature and I will miss her. Sending love and light to her family at this dark time."
Shannen Doherty's mother, Rose Doherty, thanked everyone who supported their family: "She is my beautiful girl and my heart. Our family wants to thank everyone who loved and supported our Shannen throughout her life. We are truly grateful." This statement was published by People.
Let us recall that Shannen Doherty died on July 13 at the age of 53 after a long battle with breast cancer. She was diagnosed in 2015. After intensive treatment, including a mastectomy, chemotherapy and radiation therapy, she achieved remission, but in 2019 the cancer returned and soon metastasized to the brain.
A year before her death, Shannen Doherty filed for divorce from her third husband, Kurt Iswarincko, after 14 years of marriage. For a long time, he refused to sign the papers because he did not want to pay alimony, which amounted to about $15.5 thousand a month. Due to the lack of work, Shannen Doherty could lose health insurance and livelihood: she accused her husband of continuing to live his own life, shirking his responsibilities to his dying wife. Last month, she sued him to force him to pay her alimony.
