Shannen Doherty's Death Leaves Her With Huge Debts: Actress Forced to Take Out $3 Million Loan
Actress Shannen Doherty, who died over the weekend after a long battle with cancer, left behind huge debts that will now go to her family, the US Sun reports.
A year before her death, the actress was forced to take out an unusual $3 million mortgage on a property in Malibu: for this, she turned to an organization that gives loans to people who do not meet the usual requirements of banks. She did not have time to pay off: before her death, the actress owed about a quarter of a million dollars in legal costs. Now the debts will go to her relatives.
The day before Shannen's death, Doherty officially divorced her husband Kurt Iswarienko, whom she had separated from long ago due to his infidelity. The actress also signed a statement waiving alimony. She also agreed to a "default or no contest" divorce, meaning the former spouses completed the divorce process by mutual consent out of court.
They had been married since October 2011. Shortly before she was scheduled to undergo a complex brain surgery to remove a tumor, Shannen Doherty learned that her husband had been cheating on her for a long time and filed for divorce in April 2023. In early June 2024, Shannen Doherty filed a lawsuit in court: she demanded that her husband pay her alimony in the amount of about $ 15.5 thousand per month.
Doherty worried that she would soon lose her health insurance and income due to her lack of work, and accused her husband of continuing to live his life while shirking his responsibilities. According to Doherty, Izvarienko spent money on private jet flights and entertainment at a time when she needed expensive medical treatment. She also believed that her ex-husband was not signing divorce papers in order to receive her inheritance.
Before her death, Doherty hosted a podcast in which she talked about her illness and encouraged people to get tested.
