The Internet is discussing the Turkish shooter who won silver at the Olympics. He came without equipment, in a wrinkled T-shirt and did not take one hand out of his pocket
A Turkish shooter named Yusuf Dikeç competed at the Olympics in a wrinkled T-shirt, without special equipment and with one hand in his pocket. He won a silver medal and immediately became a meme hero.
It is customary to wear special glasses to avoid glare and noise-canceling headphones at shooting competitions, but 51-year-old Jusif Dikec looked like he was just out shooting at a regular shooting range after work. He was paired with 24-year-old Sevval Tarkhan, shooting an air pistol from ten meters. Serbian pair Zorana Arunovic and Damir Mikec took first place, while Manu Bhaker and Sarabjot Singh of India won bronze.
Silver in Paris was Dikeç's first Olympic medal, and he has represented Turkey since 2008, meaning he has competed in five Games. Turkey had never won a medal in shooting before. Dikeç reportedly took up the sport while serving as a corporal in the Turkish Gendarmerie General Command. He is single, has a daughter, and lists dancing as his hobby.
Social media users reacted to the unusual shooter with jokes and memes: someone wrote that "Turkey sent a typical dad to the Olympics," while others decided that Yusuf Dikech moonlights as a killer in his spare time.
