She suffered from drug addiction, was engaged in prostitution and died in a hospice: why Mariah Carey did not communicate with her late sister

Today it became known that the mother and sister of singer Mariah Carey died on the same day, August 24, within a few hours of each other. After that, the network again began to discuss the details of the last years of the life of the star's sister, Alison, with whom Mariah had a bad relationship.

Mariah Carey, 55, said in her statement about the death of her loved ones that she spent the last week with her 87-year-old mother Patricia, but did not mention her sister, with whom she has not spoken since 1991. Alison Carey, 63, who was HIV-positive and suffered from drug addiction throughout her life, spent the last three weeks in hospice, her close friend and guardian Dave Baker told The US Sun.

He noted that she had recently been "having problems with her internal organs." "Behind Alison's stern exterior was a very intelligent, warm and sensitive person. I knew her for nine years - and as her friend, and in recent months also her carer, I will miss her very much," he told reporters.

Alison has lived most of her life with drug addiction and a terminal diagnosis (HIV). In 2020, she sued her and Mariah's mother, accusing her of forcing her to participate in sex orgies with strangers in satanic rituals when she was 10, under the threat of harming Mariah. Alison left home at 15 and began prostituting herself in New York City before Mariah became a famous singer. Alison later suffered from depression and post-traumatic stress disorder. Despite her life's difficulties, she gave birth to four children, who also later stopped communicating with her.

In 2016, Alison turned to her famous sister for help, the Daily Mail reports. "Mariah, I love you and I desperately need your help," the statement read. Alison was expecting financial support from her sister, as her house had recently been robbed and she had suffered a brain injury from a blow to the head with a baseball bat. Alison spent some time in a psychiatric hospital in New York. In 2018, Mariah and Alison's older brother Morgan said that after the incident, his sister suffered from memory loss, seizures, and periodically lost consciousness.

"Alison was taken to hospital for observation after she was found wandering the streets barefoot and partially clothed, causing concern to police. Her behaviour was due to the injuries sustained in the attack and the fact that she had not taken her medication," Morgan Carey said.

He noted that Mariah was able to help her sister with medical bills (the biggest problem in Alison's life), but no matter how much relatives asked for help, the celebrity ignored their requests. "Mariah is able to provide Alison with the proper care and avoid lifelong regrets about the missed opportunity to forgive and help her only sister. For such people [celebrities], these are trifles, and her fiancé is a billionaire. The least they could do is put Alison in a good hospital and provide her with the necessary care. Mariah is the only person in the family who can really change Alison's life for the better."

Alison Carey's condition has been stable in recent years. She has undergone multiple brain surgeries, spleen surgery, hip replacements, and long periods of rehabilitation. She also requires constant care and medication, including for HIV. In 2021, she recorded a video in which she revealed that she had lost all her teeth.

Mariah Carey explained why her relationship with her family was strained in her 2020 memoir, The Meaning of Mariah Carey. The singer described her difficult childhood in the chapter "Dandelion Tea," claiming that Alison drugged her, tried to drive her crazy, and poured a cup of boiling hot tea on her. "When I was 12, my sister drugged me with Valium, offered me cocaine, gave me third-degree burns, and tried to sell me to a pimp." In the book, Carey also claims that her brother Morgan was once hired to kill a man for $30,000, but ultimately failed to do so.

Mariah's mother, Patricia, was an opera singer who helped the future star develop her talent as a child. She was married to Alfred Roy Carey, the father of Alison, Mariah, and Morgan. The couple divorced when Mariah was three years old. Alfred died of cancer in 2002.

Mariah called her siblings "spoiled" in an interview with Oprah Winfrey. "We don't even really know each other, and that's the thing. We didn't grow up together, but we lived in the same house. They were on their own paths, and by the time I came along, they were already spoiled, in my opinion. But then again, I wasn't there. I was thrown into this world, and I literally felt like an outsider in my own family."

In 2021, after the release of the memoir, Alison filed a $1.25 million lawsuit against Mariah, claiming that the information in the book caused her "immense emotional distress." The outcome of the case is still unclear. At the same time, Morgan told the press that the singer made up these stories to sell her memoirs.
