"It's Cruel Violence Against Yourself." Demi Moore Speaks Out About Her Desire to Conform to Beauty Standards

In an interview with The Guardian, Demi Moore discussed how the desire for an ideal appearance and conformity to stereotypes is violence against oneself.

What really struck me was the brutal violence against herself. It's not what others do to you, it's what we do to ourselves," says Demi Moore.

She says that now, anyone who is in the public eye faces public condemnation. "We live in a time of great judgment. People can judge each other anonymously and they do it cruelly. I think that the desire to judge others is a reflection of one's own problems and a way to satisfy one's own sense of self-worth. I have learned to just ignore it when things like this happen. How I feel about it determines what it will mean to me."
