Miley Cyrus Sued Over Controversial Hit 'Flowers' Believed to Be About Her Ex-Husband

Miley Cyrus is being sued for copyright infringement over her alleged use of a Bruno Mars song in her Grammy-winning hit "Flowers," which was dedicated to her ex-husband, who was rumored to have cheated on her with Jennifer Lawrence.

According to documents obtained by TMZ, Tempo Music Investments claims Cyrus' 2023 hit single shares "many musical similarities" with Mars' 2012 ballad "When I Was Your Man." The company, which holds a share of the copyright to Mars' song, claims the chorus, harmony, melody, chord progressions, and lyrics to "Flowers" were "intentionally" lifted from the 2012 song. Mars is not listed as a plaintiff in the lawsuit.

For this song, 31-year-old Miley Cyrus received her first Grammy, and the album Flowers became the best album of the year and the best solo pop performance: it even beat out Taylor Swift and Billie Eilish.

Rumor has it that the song Flowers is dedicated to Miley Cyrus' ex-husband Liam Hemsworth, with whom she was married from 2018 to 2020. The press wrote that he cheated on Miley Cyrus with actress Jennifer Lawrence. So, references to Lawrence were found in the video and lyrics. For example, in the video, Miley Cyrus appeared in a gold dress from the 1991 Saint Laurent collection, which is very similar to the Prabal Gurung dress that Lawrence wore to the premiere of The Hunger Games in 2012.
