Demi Lovato admits she still worries about the drug overdose that nearly killed her
Actress Demi Lovato says she still struggles with her near-fatal drug overdose in her new Hulu documentary Child Star.
Demi Lovato, 32, says fame has come at a price: "I wouldn't be where I am today if I hadn't made all the choices that led me to this point, but it came at a cost. There's definitely no manual on how to navigate this industry at such a young age."
She got her first role when she was just seven years old: she started acting in the Disney Channel series Barney & Friends. It made her famous and later, as a teenager, she often starred in films and TV shows, recorded albums and toured non-stop: "Nobody knew how to stop the train. The train just kept moving. There was never a break." To cope with the stress she was experiencing then, she resorted to alcohol and drugs: "If you're going to work with me like an adult, I'm going to party like an adult. It was the only escape I knew. But I couldn't see all the consequences then. I still get really anxious when I think about how close I came to not being here at all."
According to her, in 2018, she was on the verge of death due to an overdose and after that, she embarked on a long journey of fighting addiction. Because of what happened, she suffered three strokes and a heart attack. Demi admitted that the incident greatly affected her mental and physical health. The singer suffered brain damage, and she cannot drive a car due to vision problems.
At the end of last year, it became known that the actress was getting married. Her chosen one was Canadian performer Jordan Lutes, who, like Demi, struggled with addiction. On this basis, they became close.
