"Skinny Jeans Are the Path to LGBT*." The State Duma Found a New Reason for the Collapse of the USSR: It's Hipsters and Jazz

Elina Zhgutova, a member of the public council at the State Duma Committee for the Protection of the Family, said on television that skinny jeans for men are the path to LGBT*. The deputy also named the hipsters and jazz music as some of the reasons for the collapse of the USSR.

"If you dance jazz today (although I generally think that this is the music of slackers), and tomorrow you sell out your homeland - there is much more truth in this than there is a joke. The beginning of the collapse of a great country happened precisely through these phenomena: through jazz, hipsters, and so on. What are hipsters? What are skinny jeans? This, excuse me, is the path to LGBT*. Why should a man tighten himself? For a woman, he does not become more attractive," said Zhgutova.

In the USSR, stilyagi were a youth subculture that was popular in large cities from the late 1940s to the early 1960s. They were distinguished by their bright clothes, a special way of speaking, and an increased interest in foreign music and dance. The Western way of life was their standard, and the movement itself became a protest against the stereotypes of Soviet society. Stilyagi were persecuted by opponents of the subculture. They were called anti-Soviet, ridiculed and condemned. Many films have been made about stilyagi, but the most famous

Earlier, the State Duma passed a law banning childfree propaganda, and Vyacheslav Volodin said that the collapse of the USSR was influenced by the film "Intergirl": "How did the collapse of the Soviet Union begin? Back in the days of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union, in 1989, the film "Intergirl" was released. Everyone applauded! Queues at movie theaters, secretaries of the Central Committee went and watched. The result? The country was gone!" Volodin said.

According to the plot of the film "Intergirl", Elena Yakovleva's heroine Tanya works as a nurse, and on weekends - as a currency prostitute in the Leningrad hotel "Pribaltiyskaya". She dreams of marrying a foreigner and arranging her life in the best possible way.
