Norwegian princess's son arrested on rape charges
The son of Princess Mette-Marit of Norway from her first marriage, 27-year-old Marius Borg Høiby, has been arrested on charges of rape, the Norwegian police press service reported.
He is accused of raping an unconscious girl. On November 6, the police officially launched an investigation. Marius was first detained in August: he was in a car with a girl who accused him of rape: he was forbidden to communicate with her. According to law enforcement, traces of drugs were found in Høiby's blood. Marius is currently in custody in the Norwegian capital.
As the media clarifies, the victim was allegedly Marius' lover, but her lawyer denies this. The victim is 20 years old. The royal family has not yet commented on the story.
Marius is Mette-Marit Tjessem Høiby's son with her first husband, Magnus Borg. Mette-Marit is now married to Crown Prince Haakon of Norway.
Marius is not the only person connected to the royal family to be accused of rape. Similar accusations have been made against Queen Elizabeth's son, Prince Andrew. Andrew was accused of raping a minor: a woman named Virginia Giuffre said he forced her to have sex when she was 17. Giuffre claimed that convicted sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein had rented her out for sex to influential people, as well as his business partners and friends, one of whom was Prince Andrew. The middle son of Queen Elizabeth II had previously managed to settle the matter out of court, paying Giuffre £12 million.
