Conspiracy theories have emerged around the death of Aubrey Plaza's husband: online people believe the actress worshiped the devil

It recently became known that the husband of the star of the series "White Lotus" Aubrey Plaza, director Jeff Baena, died at the age of 47. The tragic event continues to be actively discussed on the Internet, and conspiracy theories have already formed around it, connected with the 40-year-old Aubrey's fascination with "dark forces".

The Los Angeles medical examiner's office said yesterday that Jeff's cause of death was asphyxiation - he hanged himself in his and his wife's home in Los Feliz, one of the city's quietest neighborhoods. Some fans of the director believe his decision to take his own life may be linked to a history of mental illness in his family.

Themes of suicide and mental illness have surfaced in Baena’s work. For example, his 2020 film “The Horsewoman” tells the story of a girl who cannot distinguish between her dreams and reality: she feels like she is being abducted by aliens and that she is traveling through time. It is important to note that the heroine has experienced serious trauma: her mother committed suicide by swallowing pills.

Jeff once admitted that he himself was a UFO video. He also revealed during a Q&A with Reddit users that his first stepmother suffered from manic depression.

One way or another, Jeff explored the theme of death in his films, even if he did it with humor. His film “If Your Girlfriend Is a Zombie” (in which, by the way, Aubrey Plaza starred) tells the story of a guy named Zach, who cannot find a place for himself after the death of his girlfriend. However, soon she unexpectedly returns to life - or rather, not quite. She becomes a zombie. And in the film “The Little Hours,” the main character ends up in a society of medieval nuns, but finds there not a quiet haven, but an abode of suppressed passions.

One of the nuns in the film was also played by the director's wife, Aubrey Plaza. The actress's career has many roles that have created a "dark" and slightly "otherworldly" image for her, partly because of this, conspiracy theories began to appear around the death of Jeff Baena. But it's not just about roles. Aubrey's fascination with dark forces manifests itself in everyday life. For example, she congratulated her fans on the New Year with a very frightening postcard, and once, when receiving an award, she publicly thanked the Devil and "all the dark lords" for this. At the time, it was perceived as a joke, but now many look at what Aubrey said differently.

However, the actress's defenders do not see any connection between her personal tragedy and the fact that, in their opinion, she was simply maintaining her image of a "gothic girl." They call for not spreading rumors and supporting Aubrey in her grief.
