"If this can happen to me, what's the risk to other women?" Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum was publicly attacked and had her breasts groped.

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum has filed charges against a man who attempted to kiss her and grab her breasts while she was walking on the street. Following the incident, she also announced her intention to review the country's laws and procedures that protect women from violence.
On November 4, Sheinbaum was walking in downtown Mexico City with supporters and journalists when a stranger suddenly approached her from the crowd, grabbed her by the waist, and attempted to kiss her. Her assistant came to her aid and protected her from the stranger.
The man was arrested for sexual assault. Police suspect him of involvement in two more incidents of harassment that occurred the same day. He was reportedly intoxicated at the time of the attack.
At a press briefing, 63-year-old Sheinbaum announced her intention to sue her attacker. "I survived this episode of harassment. But if this is possible with the president, what's the threat to other women? This shouldn't happen; no one has the right to violate our personal space," the president said. She also called for attention to women's safety in the country.
Sheinbaum was elected president of Mexico in a popular vote and has held her post since October 2024, becoming the first female president in the country's history.
Coincidentally, this harassment incident occurred shortly before another scandal involving a Mexican woman. Social media is currently buzzing about the public insult of a Miss Universe contestant from that country.
