"It's not even a karat." Evgenia Medvedeva's "modest" 845,000-ruble engagement ring is being discussed online.

The ring Evgenia Medvedeva received as an engagement ring from her boyfriend, dancer Ildar Gainutdinov, is being discussed online. Some considered the piece too modest for the award-winning figure skater.
The day before, 25-year-old Medvedeva posted a video of her engagement to Gainutdinov on social media: Ildar surprised the athlete with a candlelit dinner on the roof of the five-star Carlton Moscow hotel in central Moscow, overlooking the Kremlin, where he knelt down and presented her with a diamond ring. The camera captured Medvedeva's reaction when Ildar opened the Cartier box containing the jewelry.
The figure skater said "yes" to the marriage proposal and admitted it came as a surprise. However, she later told reporters that she had been expecting it.
The internet quickly calculated the cost of Medvedeva's engagement ring—845,000 rubles (according to Championat.com)—and deemed it "modest": "Zhenya Medvedeva's ring with a small diamond costs only 845,000 rubles. That's not even a carat," declared, for example, the "Tulup Tutberidze" Telegram channel, dedicated to figure skating.
However, not everyone agreed with this opinion. "The ring is excellent, Zhenechka is beautiful," "At least it's a ring; some people don't get any at all," and "What difference does it make what kind of ring it is or how much it costs," the channel's commentators wrote.
Last summer, Medvedeva confirmed she was dating 24-year-old Gainutdinov, sharing a photo from their romantic shoot together. The couple met on the TNT show "Star Dances" in 2024. Interestingly, their engagement took place shortly after the wedding of her ex-boyfriend, figure skater Dmitry Chigirev.
Previously, the internet was buzzing about the "battle" of Western celebrities' engagement rings. Cristiano Ronaldo's girlfriend, Georgina Rodriguez, received a 30-carat diamond ring from the footballer, valued at seven figures, while Amazon owner Jeff Bezos placed a 45-carat stone on the finger of his fiancée, Lauren Sanchez. Taylor Swift's "vintage" engagement ring was valued at $1 million.
