The first teaser for the sequel to "The Devil Wears Prada" has been released. The video appeared on the 20th Century Studios YouTube channel.
In the short video, the first film's protagonist, Andy (Anne Hathaway), returns to the Runway magazine editorial office, where she began her career. She enters the office building and unexpectedly runs into Miranda Priestly (Meryl Streep) in the elevator.
The new installment follows Runway editor-in-chief Miranda Priestly as she struggles to maintain the magazine's influence amid a print media crisis. Her former assistant, Emily, now heads a luxury brand whose advertising budget could be the fashion magazine's salvation.
The original team—director David Frankel, screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna, and producer Karen Rosenfelt—has taken over filming. Joining the already familiar cast are Kenneth Branagh (Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets), Lucy Liu (Charlie's Angels), Jennifer Aniston's ex-husband Justin Theroux, B.J. Novak (The Office), Simone Ashley (Bridgerton), and Timothée Chalamet's older sister, Pauline Chalamet. Premieres May 1.
Released in 2006, "The Devil Wears Prada" follows a young woman who lands a job at one of the most influential fashion magazines. The film became a hit, in part due to its portrayal of Miranda Priestly, whom critics believed was based on Anna Wintour (Weisberger herself had previously worked as her assistant, further cementing these assumptions). Notably, the announcement of a sequel coincided with Wintour's departure as editor-in-chief after 37 years at Vogue.
