Renée Zellweger unveiled a statue of Bridget Jones in London.

A monument to Bridget Jones, the iconic character of the 2000s from the "Bridget Jones's Diary" books and films, was unveiled in Leicester Square, London. Renée Zellweger, the actress who played the title role in the films, and Helen Fielding, the 67-year-old author of the Bridget Jones books, attended the event.

Renee Zellweger, 56, posed in front of the monument in a black button-down dress and white heels, while Helen Fielding wore a leather coat with fur and boots.

The character of Bridget Jones became popular in the late 1990s thanks to Helen Fielding's novels and later their film adaptations. Bridget is an English woman in her early thirties (in the first film), lonely and dreaming of a serious relationship with an older man. She tries to lose weight, quit smoking and drinking, and often finds herself in awkward situations. Bridget's character has become iconic, and the films starring Renée Zellweger are considered some of the most popular romantic comedies of all time. Zellweger received an Oscar nomination for her role in Bridget Jones's Diary.

There have been four Bridget Jones films released: Bridget Jones's Diary, Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason, Bridget Jones 3, and Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy.
