An ancient castle, the newlyweds' four children among the guests, and a fireworks show: how Conor McGregor's €1 million wedding in the Vatican went.
On December 12, Conor McGregor married his longtime girlfriend, Dee Devlin, and today photos and details of the ceremony appeared online.
The wedding, which, according to Us Weekly, cost the 37-year-old former UFC champion €1 million, took place in the historic Santo Stefano degli Abiçini church in the Vatican. McGregor admitted in an interview with reporters that obtaining permission to hold the ceremony was difficult, but the couple didn't consider other options: "Our family is deeply committed to faith, and there is no place more sacred than the Vatican. I believe Jesus led us here on this day. We are grateful for the exception they made for us."
For the ceremony, the groom chose a black tuxedo custom-made by David August, and the bride wore a white lace dress crafted by the Roman atelier Il Giardino Fiorito delle Spose. The cape, necklace, and veil were also handcrafted there.
After the official ceremony, the newlyweds traveled in a white Rolls-Royce to the wedding reception venue—the ancient Castello di Torcreccenza castle in Rome. Along the way, the couple made stops at picturesque locations to take romantic photos.
The celebration was held in the company of their closest loved ones. Friends, relatives, and their four children—8-year-old Conor Jr., 6-year-old Croya, 4-year-old Rhian, and 2-year-old Mac—came to congratulate the newlyweds. The children posed for photographs with their parents.
"We've dedicated the last few years to expanding our family. We are the parents of four incredible children, and they are the love of our lives. It was important to us that they be a part of this day. Together, we are unstoppable," McGregor explained.
Live music accompanied the guests during dinner. The newlyweds' first dance was to Celine Dion and Andrea Bocelli's "The Prayer," performed by singer Rad and Italian tenor Davide Capitanio. Later, the girl group Sweet Love from McGregor's label, Conor's Greenback Records, performed Mariah Carey's "Dreamlover."
To cap off the evening, Conor and Dee cut the wedding cake, after which everyone headed out into the garden for a massive fireworks show.
As a reminder, Conor McGregor and 38-year-old Dee Devlin have been together for 17 years. They met in 2008 at a Dublin nightclub, where Devlin was working as a waitress. At the time, McGregor was just starting out in the sport and was working part-time as a plumber. The couple shared a journey of becoming a fighter, and Dee supported him even during a high-profile sex scandal.
Last year, McGregor was found guilty of raping a woman in a Dublin hotel in 2018. The court ordered him to pay the victim $266,000 in compensation, as well as $1.4 million in legal costs. The fighter himself insisted that the sexual encounter was consensual.
Previously, there were reports that McGregor allegedly attempted to rape a woman in a men's restroom during a basketball game. He was also accused of attempting to solicit sex with a woman in a Dublin nightclub parking lot and of indecent behavior at a bar. However, none of these cases went to trial.
