"It" and "The Wire" star James Ransone has died.

Actor James Ransone, best known for his roles in "It" and "Sinister," has died at the age of 47. The New York Post reports that the cause of death was suicide.

Ransone reportedly committed suicide on December 19 by hanging, his body found in a "barn" near his Los Angeles home.

In 2021, James Ransone publicly admitted to being repeatedly sexually abused and molested as a child by his tutor, Timothy Rualo. The actor stated that this led to lifelong "shame and embarrassment" and also drove him to alcohol and drug addiction. In 2006, the actor recovered from his addictions, and in 2020, he pressed charges against Rualo. Police reportedly took no action.

Over the course of his career, James Ransone has starred in numerous acclaimed films. These include the series "The Wire," "Law & Order," "Pokerface," "Generation Kill," "Bosch," and many others, as well as the films "Sinister," "It," "Silver Linings Playbook," and Sean Baker's films "Tangerine" and "Starlet."

Ransone is survived by his wife, Jamie McPhee, and two children. After her husband's death, McPhee posted on social media about a fundraiser for the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI). The actor briefly dated Chloë Sevigny in the mid-2000s.
