"Brigitte Again?" Emmanuel Macron Appeared in Public with a Red Eye

French President Emmanuel Macron appeared in public with an injured eye. Social media was subsequently flooded with sarcastic comments about the circumstances under which the politician may have sustained his injury. Many believe his wife, Brigitte, was involved, amid rumors of troubles in their marriage.

The day before, 48-year-old Macron met with representatives of the country's armed forces, and during his speech from the podium, he revealed a noticeably swollen and reddened eye. The politician himself drew attention to his appearance, noting that the disease was not dangerous and comparing himself to a tiger.

"I apologize for the unsightly appearance of my eye. It's, of course, completely harmless. Just an unintentional reference to 'Eye of the Tiger'... For those who understand the reference, it's a sign of determination," Macron joked, referring to the title of the soundtrack to the 1982 film "Rocky III" starring Sylvester Stallone.

Meanwhile, social media users have taken to discussing Macron's changing appearance. Some have concluded that his wife, Brigitte, may be responsible for his injury, especially since the couple has recently been fueling speculation about marital problems. "Brigitte again?" people are sarcastically commenting online.

As a reminder, in the spring of 2025, a video of the French President's wife, Brigitte, slapping him went viral online. The incident occurred upon the couple's arrival in Vietnam: reporters captured Macron and his wife arguing on board their plane after it had just landed. At one point, she leaned forward and slapped her husband in the face. They both pretended nothing had happened, but as they descended the steps, Brigitte ignored her husband's extended hand. Although the Elie Palace attempted to explain the incident away as a playful spat between the presidential couple, the internet suspected the Macrons were experiencing marital problems. Macron himself added fuel to these rumors when he began "flirting" with Prince William's wife, Kate Middleton, during official meetings. The slapping incident itself became a meme, with US President Donald Trump and billionaire Elon Musk joking about the situation.

Conversations about the Macrons' difficulties are taking place against the backdrop of their other problems. For example, 72-year-old Brigitte Macron has long been forced to publicly defend herself against suspicions that she was born male*.
