Britney Spears sold the rights to her songs for $200 million.

Britney Spears sold the copyrights to her hits and several albums.
On December 30th last year, the 44-year-old pop star signed a deal transferring a significant portion of her music catalog to the privately held music company Primary Wave. A source told Page Six that the deal is valued at approximately $200 million.
The sold catalog included such legendary hits of the singer as: "Baby One More Time" and the entire album of the same name, the hit "Toxic" along with her fourth album "In The Zone", as well as the tracks "(You Drive Me) Crazy", "Oops!... I Did It Again", "Piece of Me", "Gimme More", "Everytime", "Hold It Against Me" and many others. Now the company can use the songs for its own purposes: sell the rights to them for advertising, film, and remixes by other artists.
In 2024, Britney Spears announced she had no plans to return to the music industry. Her last song, "Mind Your Business," was released in 2023, her last album, "Glory," was released in 2016, and two years later, she held her farewell concert in Texas. Therefore, selling songs seems a logical conclusion to the singer's career. Moreover, many musicians have previously sold their tracks, including Shakira, Bob Dylan, Kiss, and others. The most recent, and most famous, deal to sell his songs was signed by Justin Bieber: in 2022, he received $200 million for the rights to tracks recorded before 2021.
The insider noted that Spears was happy to make the deal and celebrated with her sons, 20-year-old Sean Preston and 19-year-old Jayden James, whom she had with Kevin Federline.
As a reminder, Britney Spears married her second wife, Kevin Federline, in 2004, three months after they met. The couple divorced in 2007, and the court ordered their sons to live with their father. A year later, Britney suffered a nervous breakdown—she shaved her head and attacked a paparazzi. Afterward, the singer spent many years under her father's conservatorship, from which she was only released in 2021. Spears also paid child support to Federline until her children reached adulthood.
After her conservatorship was released, the star began posting strange videos on social media, and fans became concerned for her safety. In 2022, Spears married Sam Asghari, but they separated two years later.
