"Grey's Anatomy" and "Euphoria" star Eric Dane has died.

Actor Eric Dane has died at the age of 53 from Lou Gehrig's disease (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis), which he publicly revealed 10 months ago.
The star of the series "Grey's Anatomy" and "Euphoria" spent the last months of his life in a wheelchair and passed away surrounded by his loved ones: his wife, daughters, and friends.
"It is with heavy hearts that we announce that Eric Dane passed away Thursday afternoon after a courageous battle with ALS. He spent his final days surrounded by dear friends, his devoted wife, and his two beautiful daughters, Billie and Georgia, who were the center of his world," Dane's family said in a statement. "Throughout his journey with ALS, Eric became an advocate for disease awareness and research, determined to help others facing the same challenge. He will be deeply missed and will always be remembered fondly. Eric adored his fans and is forever grateful for the outpouring of love and support he received."
Eric Dane was diagnosed with Lou Gehrig's disease about a year ago. Despite the diagnosis, the actor continued to act in films until his condition worsened. Symptoms of the disease began to appear in early 2024, and by the summer of 2025, he had completely lost the use of his right hand. Just a couple of months later, his speech became slurred, and by the fall of 2025, he began using a wheelchair full-time.
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, also known as Lou Gehrig's disease, is an incurable disorder of the nervous system that gradually progresses and leads to paralysis. Over time, a person loses the ability to walk, speak, and breathe.
Dane has been married to actress Rebecca Gayheart since 2004, but she filed for divorce in 2018. They are still officially divorced, and Gayheart returned to her husband after her illness. They have two teenage daughters, Billie and Georgia.
Eric Dane is best known for his role as Dr. Mark Sloan on Grey's Anatomy. He has also appeared in Charmed, Euphoria, Valentine's Day, X-Men, Marley & Me, and many other projects.
