Pete Davidson's girlfriend, Elsie Hewitt, explained why she refused to breastfeed her newborn daughter.

Elsie Hewitt, a 29-year-old model and girlfriend of comedian Pete Davidson, revealed she decided not to breastfeed their newborn daughter. She explained her choice to bottle-feed in an interview with Elle: "Breastfeeding is somehow imbued with a huge moral connotation. It's presented as something you 'should' do—as the gold standard. Yes, breast milk provides a baby with antibodies, unrivaled nutrition, and a strong emotional bond with the mother. But at what cost?" Elsie asks, noting that this type of feeding places the greatest burden on just one person: the mother, who "has already carried and delivered a child and is going through a difficult postpartum recovery."
Breastfeeding, according to Hewitt, offers more "equality," despite being considered a secondary feeding option. "It's much less often seen as an equal choice that allows parents to share responsibility and alleviate some of the burden on the mother during one of the most vulnerable periods of her life," Elsie concludes.
Hewitt says she has mixed feelings about her decision. She calls it "a little war in my body and mind." Nevertheless, she made her decision. "When people asked me if I planned to breastfeed, I took my time. The most important thing for me was doing what was best for my baby. I will always do what's best for her," she said.
Elsie's family supported her choice; she says no one pressured her or forced her to make any specific decision. "My partner didn't insist on either. My mother, who breastfed my sisters and me and was proud of it, simply told me the decision was entirely mine. The obstetrician-gynecologist and hospital staff also didn't try to dissuade me," she shares.
As a reminder, Elsie Hewitt and Pete Davidson's only daughter, Scottie Rose, was born on December 12th of last year. The couple announced Elsie's pregnancy five months into their relationship. Despite his numerous short-term relationships (including Kim Kardashian, Emily Ratajkowski, and Ariana Grande), Pete had already declared his readiness to become a father. He was present at the birth and supported Elsie, and the couple also shared plans for expanding their family.
