Britney Spears arrested for drunk driving
Britney Spears was arrested in California for drunk driving, TMZ and Variety report.
According to sources, the incident occurred on Wednesday evening. Around 3:00 a.m., the 44-year-old singer was taken to the police station and questioned. A law enforcement insider said that during the interview, Britney was emotional and "cried a lot," but admitted her guilt. According to the protocol, the artist was released from custody later that morning, and she is scheduled to appear in court on May 4.
"This was an unfortunate and inexcusable incident. Britney intends to act with integrity and in accordance with the law. Hopefully, this will be the first step toward long-overdue change in her life," Spears's representative told Page Six. He added that the singer's sons now intend to spend more time with her and look after their mother's "well-being."
It's worth noting that Spears was already in the spotlight last fall for a similar incident. Back then, while in a "disordered" state, she got behind the wheel and nearly hit a friend, then drove recklessly. The incident was filmed by bystanders, and the video, which went viral online, led many to believe the singer was drunk. Spears denied this, claiming a "doppelganger" was driving. However, she was soon spotted on the streets of Los Angeles with a glass of champagne in hand.
As a reminder, in 2008, after a nervous breakdown, Britney Spears was placed under the conservatorship of her father, Jamie Spears, who exercised complete control over her life and finances. The FreeBritney movement demanded the singer's release for many years, and it was only in 2021 that the conservatorship was lifted. Afterward, Spears publicly accused her relatives of abuse.
After her release, the singer became active on social media, but this only further unsettled her fans. Many find her content odd: she frequently posts explicit photos, repetitive dance videos, or messages that are sometimes difficult to understand.
