"For the first time, I feel free." Jennifer Lopez spoke about her divorce from Ben Affleck and single life.

Jennifer Lopez, in a teaser for her upcoming interview with "Nightline," opened up about a new chapter in her life. The actress, who decided to take a break from romantic relationships after her divorce from Ben Affleck and focus solely on herself, admitted it was "the best decision of her life." Her words are quoted by Page Six.
"I'm in my lucky era. I think for the first time in my life I feel truly free. I'm on my own. And it's really nice," said Lopez, 56.
Previously, the singer noted, she couldn't imagine her life without a man by her side: "I always thought I couldn't live without a relationship. I was very afraid of being alone. There was always someone in my life, and I felt like much of what was happening was beyond my control."
However, her fears proved unfounded. Lopez found life as a single person to her liking and learned a lot. "Now I truly trust myself and value myself more, instead of being too strict and always trying to prove something," she noted.
However, to achieve the freedom she desired, Jennifer had to endure numerous painful breakups and completely rethink her life. Her high-profile divorce from Affleck was a particularly powerful impetus for change.
"I had to drop everything and take a year off. I canceled my tour and decided to stay home to figure out myself and my feelings. For the first time, I didn't want to run away from my problems through work, other people, or anything else. I just wanted to be alone. Finally, at some point, I asked myself, 'What's happening to me?' Because I couldn't blame anyone else. I felt like there was no lesson in it. I really wanted to understand myself," Lopez recalls, reflecting on the first months after her split from her ex-husband.
It was during this period that the singer suddenly realized she didn't need to be with someone else to be happy. Since then, Lopez hasn't sought out new love—she receives enough support and warmth from herself and her loved ones. "God forbid I get into those romances again; I don't want to ruin anything! I'm a dancer, an artist, and an actress. I'm an entrepreneur. I'm happy. And I'm healthy. And I'm grateful for everything I've lived through. I'm surrounded by the love of my family, and that's the best thing you could wish for," Jennifer concluded.
As a reminder, Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck met in 2001 and soon began dating. They later became engaged, but never married. Twenty years later, they reunited. In the summer of 2022, Ben and Jennifer finally married, but their marriage was short-lived. In the summer of 2024, the couple announced their separation, and in January of last year, they officially divorced. The singer later stated that her breakup with Ben was the best thing that ever happened to her.
Before marrying Affleck, Lopez had already been married three times and is raising twins with her third husband, Marc Anthony. She recently shared rare photos with Emma and Max on the occasion of their 18th anniversary.
