An aristocrat and heir to a luxury empire, Countess Lara Cosima von Donnersmarck announced her engagement to the son of billionaire François Pinault.

The world of high fashion and European aristocracy is preparing for the wedding of the century: 22-year-old Countess Lara Cosima Henckel von Donnersmarck and 29-year-old François Pinault Jr., son of billionaire François Pinault and heir to the luxury empire Kering (owner of Gucci, Saint Laurent, and Balenciaga), have announced their engagement.
The bride shared the happy news on her Instagram*. "I'm engaged to my best friend and the most wonderful guy in the world," Lara wrote, posting a series of black-and-white photos from the photo booth and a wedding invitation engraved with calligraphy. The post garnered nearly 20,000 likes and numerous congratulations from followers in just an hour.
Lara Cosima is the daughter of Oscar-winning film director Count Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck (The Lives of Others) and lawyer Christiane Aschenfeldt. Her lineage dates back to the 14th century: the family received the title of baron in 1636 and was elevated to the rank of count in 1661 by Emperor Leopold I. Lara herself made her social debut at the Tatler Debutante Ball in 2023, interned at Dior, and became a popular blogger, racking up millions of views on TikTok.
François Pinault, the youngest, born in 1998, leads a more private life. He is the son of Kering CEO François-Henri Pinault and his first wife, Dorothée Leperre. The influential Pinault family owns not only fashion houses but also the Christie's auction house, the Stade Rennes football club, and vineyards in Burgundy. François has a sister, Mathilde, and half-siblings with Hollywood roots: Augustin James (son of supermodel Linda Evangelista) and Valentina Paloma (daughter of actress Salma Hayek).
The couple has been together for just over a year. Their union unites two powerful dynasties—a European aristocratic family and a luxury business empire.
