"I finally feel like I'm in control." Lily Allen opened up about her split from David Harbour.

Lily Allen opened up about how she overcame addiction and survived a messy divorce from her husband in an interview with Elle.
40-year-old singer Lily Allen, who returned to music in 2025 after a seven-year hiatus with the album West End Girl, admitted that she only now feels better after her divorce from her husband David Harbour: "I finally feel like I've taken control of the situation."
Lily says her children, 14-year-old Ethel Marie and 13-year-old Marnie Rose, helped her cope with the crisis in many ways: "They were always there for me during this difficult period - they saw how withdrawn I was, how thin I was, and how sad I was."
Furthermore, in an interview, the singer admitted that her alcohol and drug addictions in the past were caused by a complete lack of self-acceptance: "Because I was unbearable to myself, and alcohol and drugs dulled that feeling." Lily is currently in recovery: she has been sober for several years, and what helps her stay sober is her ability to take one day at a time and direct her energy toward helping others.
At the end of the interview, Lily revealed that she still has a shopping addiction, which she has no intention of tackling: "I don't think I deserve what I have or the money I make, so part of me is trying to get rid of it. And designer clothes are a great way to do that."
As a reminder, in early 2025, it was announced that Allen was divorcing her husband, actor David Harbour, known for his work on the series "Stranger Things." The couple's split after four years of marriage was due to David's constant infidelity: Lily learned of his infidelity through a celebrity dating app, where she had found her husband. Despite the couple having an open marriage, these infidelities were devastating for Allen. She eventually ended up in a psychiatric hospital with a nervous breakdown.
After the divorce, Allen wrote about her husband's infidelities in songs from her album "West End Girl." Moreover, during this same period, the singer admitted that she couldn't even remember how many abortions she had in her youth.
Lily is currently raising two daughters from her first marriage to artist Sam Cooper. It was recently revealed that the singer is dating 28-year-old writer Jonah Freud, and her ex-husband David Harbour is having an affair with a model 22 years his junior.
