The main reason the Duke and Duchess of Sussex won't be attending the Met Gala is said to be Anna Wintour, who effectively runs the event. Sources claim the legendary former Vogue editor hasn't been thrilled with Meghan for a long time.

Wintour had already had an experience with the Duchess of Sussex—and it left a bad taste in her mouth. In 2022, 44-year-old Meghan tried to appear on both the covers of American and British Vogue, but was turned down. Meghan then made strict demands: control over the photographer, the copywriter, the final editing, the photo selection, and the cover. "Nobody gets that. Not even Beyoncé," a source noted. When Edward Enninful, then editor-in-chief of British Vogue, failed to meet these conditions, Meghan approached Anna Wintour directly, but she "wasn't interested." She held a Zoom meeting only out of politeness.
