"She participated on a regular basis." Angelina Jolie's daughter auditioned for the music video without any connections.
South Korean K-pop singer Dayoung, whose music video recently featured Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt's daughter, stated that, contrary to rumors, 19-year-old Shiloh wasn't cast in her project because of her famous last name. According to the artist, Shiloh participated anonymously in the dancer selection process, but stood out from the crowd of other hopefuls even before they started dancing.
"She was chosen at an open casting call in Los Angeles. About 700 people applied, 200 of whom passed the in-person audition, and each of them had to master our choreography for 15 minutes. We grouped them into groups of seven and assigned them numbers. Then, each group came out and danced at the same time while we evaluated them and selected them," Dayoung said on KBS Cool FM.
She says she still remembers that Shea (the stage name Shiloh has recently adopted) was number 7. "She was wearing a short-sleeved T-shirt and straight-leg jeans from Zara. They weren't super-fashionable jeans, just regular ones. The other contestants had all come dressed just as [flamboyantly] as I was right now. But the moment she started dancing, the atmosphere in the room changed. So I immediately told the director, 'Oh, I love her. I definitely want to choose her,'" the singer recalled.
Dayoung said she only found out who Shi was after returning from filming in Korea. "We worked well together, and it was only after I returned to Korea and we started making the credits for the music video that I realized who she was. Of course, I was shocked. Because, honestly, when we were rehearsing and filming the music video, we didn't ask the dancers, 'What do your parents do?' You don't usually ask things like that," she said with a laugh.
The artist noted that she's "most worried" about Shiloh, as she's "really young" and "getting everyone's attention" right now. "I was very careful. I deliberately didn't announce her participation in the video for her sake. If she'd wanted it, she would have said so herself. But then everyone found out after the teaser came out. I think there was nothing we could do about it," Dayoung noted.
When asked what she managed to talk about in English with Shiloh, Dayoung admitted that it was just normal everyday conversations and work-related matters. "It wasn't really anything special, just normal, everyday conversations. Like, we ate together and rehearsed... things like that. She was like, 'Dayoung, how should I play this role? How would you like me to move here?'" she recalled.
"She has a really big passion for dancing. And as far as I know, this was her first K-pop music video. So, I think it was a good opportunity for her," Dayoung concluded.
Dayoung, who had previously been relatively popular (just over 700,000 Instagram followers*), and Shiloh's music video for "What's a Girl to Do" has garnered over 1 million views in three days. Meanwhile, online opinions on this debut from Jolie and Pitt's daughter are divided.
