The Duchess of Sussex took the stage on the first day of the three-day offsite event, which is taking place at the five-star InterContinental Hotel in Sydney. The event's organizer, Gemma O'Neill, posted photos from the event on her social media. For her public appearance, 44-year-old Markle chose a beige top and trousers from the Australian brand Scanlan Theodore, accessorizing with Cartier jewelry and matching pumps.
According to the participants, the Duchess spent almost the entire speech complaining about her "very difficult" public life. Specifically, Meghan stated that for over a decade she has been forced to "endure" unjustified criticism, which, in her view, reflects the "projections" of the critics themselves.
It's worth noting that, according to the Daily Mail, the Duchess received approximately $150,000 for her participation as a special guest. Tickets for attendees ranged from $2,500 to $3,000 for the opportunity to personally meet Markle, ask her questions, and take a photo with her.
Predictably, after such a performance, hundreds of negative reviews appeared online. "Why didn't Meghan Markle even share dinner with the women who paid $3,000 to spend time with her? What kind of kindness is this?" wrote one user. Others also noted: "She didn't come to socialize, but for a few PR photos and a fee," "Wow. However, Markle's representative soon responded to the indignation, clarifying that no one promised the Duchess's presence for all days of the program.
As a reminder, the retreat was initially marketed by the organizers as "the perfect girls' weekend." Guests were promised a packed program: sunrise yoga classes, sound therapy sessions, meditation, and wish-fulfillment practices—all in Markle's company.
Today officially concluded the Duchess and her husband, Prince Harry,'s four-day visit to Australia. During their trip, the couple attended charity events in Melbourne, Canberra, and Sydney.
