Emmanuel Macron received that very slap from his wife for cheating on him with an Iranian actress.

The reason why the French president's wife slapped him has become known: French media reports that the scandalous incident, which has the entire world talking, was allegedly caused by 48-year-old Emmanuel Macron's affair with 42-year-old Iranian actress Golshifteh Farahani.

Thus, a year after the incident, the French publication Le Parisien reported, citing journalist Florian Tardif and his sources, that the public conflict between Macron and his wife may have erupted because 73-year-old Brigitte learned of her husband's affair. According to the newspaper, Macron had been in a "platonic relationship" with actress Golshifteh Farahani for several months, and they corresponded. Among the messages Macron allegedly sent to his supposed secret lover were, for example, the words "I find you very beautiful."

Journalist Tardif reported that shortly before the argument between Macron and his wife, which was captured on video, Brigitte read a message from Farahani on her husband's phone. That's when the slapping scene occurred. Macron's wife's entourage has already commented on this information, refusing to confirm that the slap was connected in any way to the Iranian actress. Her representatives also stated that the French First Lady never checks her husband's phone.

As a reminder, last spring, a video went viral online showing Macron's wife slapping him on board a plane. Afterwards, Macron stepped off the plane and offered his hand to his wife, but she ignored him. The scandalous video was then dissected and meme-ed on social media, and Macron was subsequently mocked, for example, when he appeared in public with a swollen eye, but no one knew for sure the real reason for the couple's spat.

Macron's entourage had previously dismissed the slapping scene as a "typical family squabble." "It was the moment when the president and his wife relaxed for the last time before the trip, having a little fun," a source told BFM RMC. Macron also had to comment on the matter, claiming that at the moment captured on video, he and his wife were simply "fooling around." Despite the assurances from Macron's representatives, netizens have long debated the reasons for his wife's behavior: after the conflict, both appeared tense in public, so few supported the "family games" theory.

Emmanuel Macron and Brigitte Trogneux, his former French teacher, have been married since 2007. There is a 24-year age gap between the couple. Brigitte had three children in her first marriage and currently has seven grandchildren; she has no children with Macron. In addition to the couple often being criticized for their large age gap, Brigitte is also constantly suspected of being born male.*
