Billie Eilish goes strawberry blond — her lightest hair in six years

Billie Eilish is back on the light side, quite literally. The 24-year-old debuted a shoulder-length strawberry blond on Instagram this week, her lightest hair color in six years.

The slideshow opens on a mirror selfie in khaki pants and a navy sweater, her freshly cut hair swept into a bright side part. Later frames flash her two hip tattoos and a belly button piercing, plus a throwback to her blue-hair era.

Fans spotted a family resemblance right away. One comment read, "Finally I see the resemblance with Finneas 😭," a nod to her brother. Paramore's Hayley Williams kept it even simpler: "Natural hair gang ?!"

Why the sudden switch

Eilish has been mostly out of the spotlight while filming the screen adaptation of Sylvia Plath's "The Bell Jar," her feature film debut, in which she plays Esther Greenwood. For the role, she cut her hair to her shoulders and stayed a chestnut brunette through production.

The new shade also brings her back toward her natural color. Known for platinum, green, blue and the neon-root trend she pioneered, Eilish has worn dark brown since 2021. In 2023, she admitted the blond era did not deliver: "I completely had no idea who I was. I came up with this whole aesthetic, and I just got swallowed up into it."

Whatever she calls it, the strawberry blond is officially here, and the side part is doing the work.
