Anne Hathaway gives Tom Cruise's flop 'Digger' a 10/10 on Letterboxd

Anne Hathaway has joined the small but vocal club of people defending Tom Cruise's Digger. The Verity star handed Alejandro G. Iñárritu's satirical comedy a perfect 10/10 in her first-ever Letterboxd review, describing it as "smart and trippy and aggressive and funny and ambitious."
"I loved this brilliant movie," Hathaway wrote on the film-logging platform. "It's worth making the time see and decide for yourself what you make of it. For me? 10/10 🗿."

A perfect score for a movie losing money
The timing is awkward for anyone tracking the numbers. Digger opened to an $8 million domestic debut and a $20 million global start with a C+ CinemaScore, and Deadline reported the film could lose around $150 million. Hathaway's review has nothing to do with the receipts, though — she is grading the movie itself.
Digger is a rare left turn for Cruise, who also produced it. He stars as Digger Rockwell, an aging oil magnate whose drilling operation sets off an ecological disaster. The ensemble includes Riz Ahmed, John Goodman, Sandra Hüller, Michael Stuhlbarg, Jesse Plemons, Emma D'Arcy and Sophie Wilde.
Iñárritu, the director behind Birdman and The Revenant, writes and directs the film. Deadline's own review called it "surprising and urgent," while the C+ CinemaScore suggests audiences were far less sure — a gap Hathaway's five stars lands firmly on the enthusiastic side of.
Hathaway's wider Letterboxd favorites are just as taste-specific: Moonstruck, It Happened One Night, Mirror and Phantom Thread all make her list. And she is not alone among famous defenders — Guillermo del Toro recently trashed the "petty" reviews against Digger.
Cruise remains unfazed by the box office. "I am so honored to have had the opportunity to create this film alongside such talented artists," he posted after opening weekend. "Thank you to the entire cast and crew for your dedication, hard work, and joy. The experience was truly unforgettable and I'm so proud of what we created."
