Olivia Rodrigo is back at No. 1 as Thriller jumps to its highest spot in 40 years

Olivia Rodrigo is back at the top. Her album "you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love" climbs 2-1 on the Billboard 200 dated Nov. 14, notching a fourth nonconsecutive week at No. 1. The set opened the chart on June 27 and has never left the top five in its 21 weeks on the list.
In the tracking week ending Nov. 5, the record earned 57,000 equivalent album units in the U.S., down 10% from the prior frame, according to Luminate. That total is actually the smallest for a No. 1 album in more than a year, since SZA's SOS led the May 3, 2025 chart with 52,000 units. Streaming carried nearly all the weight: 49,500 units came from streams, equal to 53.33 million on-demand plays, while album sales added 7,500.
A Halloween bump for Thriller
Right behind her, Michael Jackson's Thriller scares its way from No. 13 to No. 2, its highest rank in more than 40 years. The last time the album sat this high was spring 1984, when it wrapped a 37-week run at No. 1. The Halloween-framed tracking week lifted Thriller 89% to 55,000 equivalent units.
The push came from seasonal streams of the title track plus a fresh reissue that arrived Oct. 30: three new vinyl variants (two color editions and a liquid-filled version) and a cassette tape. Physical interest sent album sales soaring 335% to 22,000, Thriller's largest single-week sales sum in nearly four years.
Elsewhere in the top 10, K-pop group ILLIT lands its first top 10 with BREAK EVEN at No. 6; BigXthaPlug scores his third with Better Over Time at No. 7; and Queens of the Stone Age notch their fifth with Perfecth's bow at No. 10. Thriller still owns the record for the most weeks at No. 1 by a solo artist, with 37; only the West Side Story soundtrack spent longer, at 54 weeks. The new Nov. 14 chart posts in full on Billboard's site Nov. 10.
