What is prepared for Easter in other countries: TOP 3 recipes
If for the East Slavic countries the main dishes on theEaster is eggs and pasca, then in other countries on this holiday they eat completely different dishes. The editors of MustHub decided to talk about what appears on the tables of Europeans at Easter, as well as share recipes for these dishes.
Mazurek
Mazurek is a traditional Easter cake in Poland. It is usually decorated with spring or Easter symbols: rabbits, willow, flowers, etc. Icing, jelly, nuts, almonds, candied fruits, dried fruits, etc. are often used as ingredients for decoration.
Ingredients:
- Wheat flour-300 g
- Butter — 200 g
- Eggs - 4 pcs.
- Corn starch — 3 tbsp.
- Sugar — 150 g
- Powdered sugar — 150 g)
- Walnut — 30 g
- Lemon zest - 1 pc.
- Breadcrumbs
Cooking method
- Mix the sifted flour with cornstarch.
- Separate the whites from the yolk. Put the whites in the refrigerator, and beat the yolks with white sugar.
- Beat the butter until it becomes fluffy. Then add a spoonful of the yolk-sugar mixture and continue to beat.
- Add the lemon zest to the mixture and mix.
- Gradually add the flour to the mixture, stirring constantly. You should get a homogeneous elastic dough.
- Put the dough in a plastic bag and put it in the refrigerator for 30 minutes.
- Take the egg whites out of the refrigerator and beat them with a mixer into a tight foam, gradually adding powdered sugar.
- For baking, you will need a square shape with a diameter of 24-26 cm. Rub the bottom of the mold with breadcrumbs. Put the dough in a mold so that the thickness of the layer is about 1.5 cm and form the sides with a height of about 2 cm.
- Spread the whipped whites on the cake and sprinkle with chopped walnuts. Bake at 140 degrees for 45-50 minutes.
- You can decorate the finished cooled cake with Easter symbols to your taste.
Torrijas
This is a very simple Spanish dessert, reminiscent of our crispy croutons. Torrijas are made from stale bread soaked in flavored milk or wine. Despite the simple recipe, this is one of the most popular Easter dishes in Spain.
Ingredients:
- Stale white bread or loaf-500 g
- Milk — 500 ml
- Chicken eggs — 4 pcs.
- Orange — 2 pcs.
- Sugar – 150 g
- Cinnamon – 1 stick
- Olive oil – for frying.
Cooking method
- Squeeze the juice out of the oranges and mix with the sugar. Put it on the fire and bring it to a boil. Cook the syrup over medium heat for 7-10 minutes, stirring constantly and removing the foam. When the syrup thickens, turn off the heat and cool.
- Pour the milk into a saucepan, add the orange zest and a stick of cinnamon. Put it on the fire and bring it to a boil.
- Cut the stale bread into slices 2-3 cm thick and put them in a deep, wide bowl and pour over the milk. Let it brew for 5-10 minutes. The pieces of bread should be well soaked in milk, but not fall apart in your hands.
- Beat the eggs, soak the pieces of bread and fry them in a pan with olive oil on both sides until golden brown.
- Put the fried aphids on a napkin to absorb the excess oil.
- Fill the torrijas with orange syrup and serve.
Reinling
Reinling is a traditional Easter roll that is baked in Aastria. To prepare this fragrant cake, use dates and raisins soaked in cognac or rum.
Ingredients:
- Flour – 500 g
- Dry yeast – 11 g
- Milk – 150 ml
- Butter – 150 g
- Sugar – 100 g
- Egg – 1 pc.
- Salt – ½ tsp.
- Raisins – 50 g
- Pitted dates – 50 g
- Walnuts – 50 g
- Cognac or rum – 2 tbsp.
- Cinnamon – 1 tsp.
Cooking method
- Pour the raisins and dates cut into pieces with rum or cognac, so that the dried fruits are well soaked.
- Mix the yeast with 3 tablespoons of sugar and pour the milk at room temperature. After 5-10 minutes, add salt, millet flour and mix well.
- Add 100 g of butter and knead the dough.
- Put the dough in a bowl, cover with a towel and put in a warm place for 40 minutes to make the dough fit.
- Mix walnuts, cinnamon and 100 g of sugar.
- Roll out the finished dough in a layer 1 cm thick. Brush with melted butter, sprinkle with cinnamon, nuts and sugar. Then put the raisins and dates soaked in brandy on the dough.
- Wrap the dough in the form of a roll and connect it in a ring.
- Put in a baking dish, brush with egg and put in a warm place for 20-30 minutes.
- Bake in the oven for 40-50 minutes at a temperature of 180 degrees. Ready rainling, if desired, you can pour chocolate or sprinkle with powdered sugar.
