Several major news outlets removed a photo of Kate Middleton and her children published yesterday, saying the image was doctored, CNN reported. These include photo banks Associated Press, Reuters, Getty and AFP.

A family portrait of the Princess of Wales with her heirs, taken by Prince William in 2024, was published on the couple's Instagram* on the occasion of Mother's Day. "Thank you for your well wishes and continued support over the past two months. Happy Mother's Day to everyone," the caption read. The photo seemed suspicious to users due to the presence of signs of Photoshop on it.

The photo was the first publicly released image of the Princess of Wales since she underwent abdominal surgery in January. The photo appeared shortly after conspiracy theories regarding Kate's real whereabouts and health began to multiply on social networks: people wrote that she was in a coma or even died. Against this backdrop, the palace even had to make an official statement.

According to CNN's source, initial analysis of the image identified at least two places that indicate possible manipulation: Princess Charlotte's sleeve cuff and the zipper on the left side of the Princess of Wales' jacket.

The agencies removed the official photo from their sites, saying they found evidence of manipulation. "It has been learned that this handout photograph of the Princess of Wales and her children, released today by Kensington Palace, has been altered and has therefore been removed from AFP's systems," AFP said in a statement.

Reuters said Charlotte's sleeve was not aligned properly, indicating the image had been altered. No one could immediately determine how, why or by whom the changes were made, the agency said.

Amid the scandal, Kate Middleton released a statement admitting that she had indeed edited the image. "Like many amateur photographers, I experiment with editing from time to time. I would like to apologize that the family photo we shared yesterday caused confusion. I hope everyone celebrating had a very happy Mother's Day." . The Princess of Wales did not comment on other rumors.

Meanwhile, rumors are now actively spreading online that the Princess of Wales is in fact recovering from a hysterectomy (surgery to remove the uterus), and that she also underwent Nissen anti-reflux surgery. All of Kate's pregnancies were accompanied by severe toxicosis, which, they say, could lead to bulimia.
