"No longer bedridden." The latest news on Michael Schumacher's condition has emerged.

57-year-old world-renowned racing driver Michael Schumacher, who has been out of public view for 12 years following an accident, is no longer bedridden and uses a wheelchair. However, his condition remains serious, according to the Daily Mail.

"After extensive conversations with several well-placed sources, it has been confirmed that the Formula 1 legend is not bedridden," the outlet reports, adding that "unfortunately, this good news is perhaps the most positive medical opinion that can be provided."

"He can't walk. Instead, he's pushed around his mansion in a wheelchair by nurses and therapists who are part of a 24-hour medical team that costs tens of thousands of pounds a week," the article says.

The publication notes that there were previous rumors that Schumacher suffered from locked-in syndrome, also known as pseudo-coma—a neurological condition in which a person, while fully conscious, is aware of everything happening but unable to react to anything other than blinking. However, the publication "regrettably" notes that "even this grim verdict is incorrect."

"You can't be sure he understands everything because he can't tell anyone anything. There's a feeling he understands some of what's going on around him, but probably not everything," said a source on condition of anonymity.

The publication also claims that rumors that Schumacher appeared in public for the first time since his coma in 2024 at his daughter's wedding are unfounded. "His right to privacy was respected in this case as well," the outlet notes.

In late 2013, Schumacher, then the most decorated driver in Formula 1 history, crashed while skiing in Méribel in the French Alps. He failed to notice a rock buried in the snow, fell, and hit his head on the mountainside, resulting in a serious traumatic brain injury. He spent several months in a coma, after which he recovered at home, cared for by his wife, Corinna, and other family members. His family denied journalists access and rarely shared details about his recovery with the press: they said Schumacher himself did not want information about his health to be made public.

Since then, not a single photograph of him in his new state has surfaced, despite several attempts by his former employees to sell his photos on the dark web. Three perpetrators, including Schumacher's former bodyguard, Markus Fritsche, were previously convicted of attempting to blackmail him with data from hard drives containing photographs, videos, and medical reports stolen from the family's computer.

These days, the Schumachers regularly visit Mallorca, where they own an estate with a swimming pool and a helipad. However, their primary residence remains a nearly $70 million home on the shores of Lake Geneva in Switzerland.

Among the few who remain accessible to Schumacher is former Ferrari team principal Jean Todt. Media reports previously indicated that during his visits, he watches Grand Prix with Michael. However, Todt hasn't told reporters anything about his former driver's condition, other than to say that he "continues to fight."

Journalists previously discovered that Schumacher's total medical expenses since the accident have exceeded €70 million. To cover the costs and maintain Michael's privacy and quality of life, his wife, Corinna, sold a number of expensive items, including their private jet, their vacation home in Norway, and their collection of luxury watches. Despite his massive spending, some estimates suggest Schumacher's net worth is still around $600 million.

Schumacher and his wife, Corinna, have a 28-year-old daughter, Gina, who enjoys equestrian sports. In 2024, she married ski jumper Jan Bethke, and in March 2025, she and her husband welcomed a daughter, whom they named Millie.

The Schumachers also have a 26-year-old son, Mick, who was with his father at the time of the tragedy and who later followed in his footsteps, becoming a racing driver.
