Godzilla's 20-inch, $90 popcorn bucket is on sale in nearly 3,000 theaters

The only thing more exciting than a big movie premiere is its souvenir popcorn bucket — and Godzilla Minus Zero just raised the bar to kaiju size. Starting today, nearly 3,000 theaters across the U.S. and Canada are selling a popcorn container modeled on the monster himself: it stands nearly 20 inches tall and holds 85 ounces of popcorn, loaded through an opening on the figure's back.
The bucket rides a wave of movie merchandise that keeps outdoing itself. In the past week alone, themed containers for Sense & Sensibility and Street Fighter have gone viral, proving that half the fun of opening weekend now happens at the concession stand.
The catch is the price. The bucket costs $90, which is enough to make even devoted Godzilla fans pause before reaching for their wallets.
The moment the design leaked, social media had opinions. "The person behind me is going to spend the whole film trying to see Godzilla over Godzilla," one X user wrote. Another was less diplomatic: "I think we're really stretching the definition of the word bucket."
Practical concerns piled up just as fast. "It just seems like it'd be very unpleasant to watch a movie with this big textured, plastic figure in your lap," one fan noted. On Reddit, a commenter predicted the container "will probably be a greasy, smelly mess if not thoroughly cleaned upon returning home."
Cheaper ways to celebrate
If $90 stings, the Godzilla Minus Zero premiere has smaller collectibles too. Select theaters will carry more traditional bucket-shaped containers priced from $20 to $35, plus two drink cups. A $20 cup has a 3D lid showing Godzilla emerging from the ocean, and the $30 Heat Ray Drink Bottle features a tumbler styled like the monster's heat ray sitting in its mouth.
Godzilla Minus Zero hits theaters on November 6, so fans have a few weeks to decide how badly they want a giant monster on their lap — and whether to splurge on the $90 centerpiece or grab one of the smaller collectibles instead.
