Turkuterie: a Bosc pear becomes a turkey-shaped cheese board in 30 minutes

Turkuterie takes the charcuterie board and gives it a Thanksgiving costume: a half Bosc pear becomes the turkey body, two whole cloves are the eyes, and a triangle of yellow cheese is the beak. Delish's recipe builds the whole thing around the pear in about 30 minutes - 10 of prep - and it works just as well afterward as a centerpiece on the dessert table, when guests are peckish but no longer want a full meal.
The recipe's "rule of 3" handles the cheese: at least one hard (Parmesan or Manchego), one semi-hard (cheddar, Gruyère, Havarti) and one soft option (brie or Camembert) that can still hold its shape when sliced.
For the feathers, the board leans on fall fruit - apples, pears and grapes. A small but useful trick: toss any apple or pear slices in a little lemon juice so they don't brown while the board sits out.
Then the pear. Delish says pears with a bigger "booty" and a smaller "head" make the most charming turkeys, and the real key to the look is direction. Every cheese, fruit, meat and cracker row should radiate outward from the center pear, each layer tucked underneath the previous one. Keep all the apple slices facing the same way and fill any blank space with nuts or grapes - negative space is the enemy of a good turkey tail.
How to build it
Start with the pear half standing stem-side up in the lower center of the board, leaving 2 to 3 inches below it, and push two cloves in near the top for eyes. Fan out the cheeses, cured meats, fruits and crackers in alternating rows, always tucking the next row under the last. Cut a small triangle of hard or semi-hard cheese for the beak, scatter nuts, olives and dried fruit into the gaps, and finish with a rosemary sprig on top of the pear and more underneath as the "pasture."
The shopping list: one Bosc pear, two cloves, a quarter-pound each of hard, semi-hard and soft cheese, three fruits, three cured meats like prosciutto or chorizo, three crackers such as Ritz or Cheez-Its, assorted nuts, dried fruit and olives, and a bunch of fresh rosemary. It serves 8 to 10 people.
