Sofia Richie posed for Porter magazine
Sofia Richie became the heroine of the cover of the new issue of Porter magazine and spoke in an interview about her childhood dreams and important advice from her older sister Nicole.
The 25-year-old daughter of singer Lionel Richie and sister of Nicole Richie starred in a photo shoot, trying on looks from Versace, Alaia, Nina Ricci, Balmain, Gucci, Khaite and other brands.
In 2023, Richie became the main trendsetter of the “quiet luxury” style, thanks to her videos on TikTok (banned in the Russian Federation) and 11 million subscribers on Instagram*. Sofia's popularity was added by her wedding to music producer Elliot Grange, which was published by Vogue. But initially the famous nepo baby dreamed of something completely different.
"I rode horses and played soccer for the Los Angeles Eagles. I dreamed of playing football professionally, but at the age of 15 I broke my hip, and that dream died,” said Sofia, who was selected for the US Olympic team before her injury. “I think playing football and riding horses gave me a real childhood.”
Under "real childhood" Sophia implies a life that took place within the family and home. “I knew I had a normal childhood life at home,” she recalls. "But if I went outside the house... I had an understanding of the big picture: my father is a megastar, my sister [Nicole Richie] is a TV star." ]
It was her sister, who is 17 years older than Sofia, who opened the world of fashion to her. In the early 2000s, Nicole was a real It-girl on television, starring in The Simple Life. with best friend Paris Hilton. "They were 'huge,'" recalls Nicole. “And as a child, I understood how obsessed people are with them.”
As a teenager, Richie Jr. began her modeling career and collaborated with many famous brands. By her 20s, she decided to take a more conscious approach to her future and began developing her own recognizable style.
“There were steps that I felt I had to take... Create a business plan for myself, for my brand, so that any company I would work with in the future would fit me. And just place yourself in the right places, and not be seen absolutely everywhere.”
The strategy worked; Sofia’s popularity is based on a lively and open dialogue with subscribers. She maintains strict boundaries on social media, thanks in large part to her sister's advice. "She's such a veteran, she's really been through it all. She reminds me that “not everything needs to be shared, everything can be just for you.”
